Laura Butler – Owner – Green Oven Bakery & Crepe Cafe
Laura Butler went from scientist to savory chef.
In this episode of Livin’ Local we’ll learn how this genetic research student from Louisiana started on a career track in dentistry, to one that involved population science to one that involves population satisfaction through fresh-baked goods and unique sweet and savory crepes.
With generations of family recipes, including her grandmother’s “slap your mama good” biscuits, Laura is on a mission to please every guest who visits her Green Oven Bakery in downtown Spearfish. With generations of talented bakers in the family she always had a hidden passion for baking which is now on full display on main street. A passion that includes creating delicious and mouthwatering baked goods and sweet and savory crepes with her own special ingredient that makes them extra good.
In this episode we’ll learn how the restaurant and bakery got its name. We’ll hear about growing a garden in Wyoming and learn the challenges and rewards of running a bakery. Also, we’ll find out what okra and figs have in common.
And, during our speed round, we’ll find out something about the Green Oven that you probably didn’t know. Laura also tells us her secret to success professional and personally and where she sees the business in five years.
